Effect of different length of gastric tube on nutritional improvement of patients with cerebral infarction treated with long-term nasogastric tube feeding in department of neurology

Objective To discuss the effect of different length of gastric tube on nutritional improvement of patients with cerebral infarction treated with long-term nasogastric tube feeding in department of neurology.Methods A total of 103 patients with cerebral infarction undergoing long-term nasogastric tube feeding in department of neurology were divided into conventional group(51 patients)and extended group(52 patients)according to the length of gastric tube.The length of gastric tube in the conventional group was 45-55 cm,and that in the extended group was 55-65 cm,which was adjusted according to the patients’individual body posture.The success rate,complication rate and nutritional status indexes before and after nasal feeding were compared between the two groups.Results The success rate of one-time intubation 92.31%of the extended group was higher than 66.67%of the conventional group,and the complication rate 7.69%was lower than 37.25%of the conventional group.All differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Before nasal feeding,there was no statistically significant difference in albumin,total protein and hemoglobin levels between the two groups(P>0.05).After nasal feeding,the albumin,total protein and hemoglobin levels in both groups were higher than before nasal feeding in this group,and the albumin(48.76±10.91)g/L,total protein(74.16±6.41)g/L and hemoglobin(128.06±9.97)g/L of in the extended group were higher than(42.96±12.98),(70.86±9.73),and(122.18±9.65)g/L in the conventional group.All differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion On the basis of the conventional placement length of 45-55 cm,the increase of about 10 cm according to the patient’s personal posture can reduce the success rate of one-time intubation,reduce the complication rates of nasal feeding treatment in patients with cerebral infarction in neurology department,and make the patients get more obvious nutritional improvement.It is recommended to be the first choice in clinical practice.
