| Abstract: | The defensive function of articular cartilage surface layer in immunity was observed in thisexperiment by indirect immunofluorescence technique. The result demonstrated that though the surfacelayer could be stained with the antibody to type II collagen, the antibody (IgG) could not penetratethis layer into deeper zone of cartilage. When the surface layer was damaged, the antibody couldstain the chondrocytes with strong fluorescence about the cells, suggesting that the antibodyconcentrated on the collagen surrounding the chondrocytes. |
