Abstract: | Diverticular disease became prevalent at the beginning of the last century, and is now the commonest acquired disease of the colon. Complications can arise from bleeding, perforation and stricturing, and surgical management remains a challenge in both the acute and elective setting. This article discusses pathophysiology, complications and trends in management including the use of laparoscopic surgery. |
