Abstract:Urinary incontinence (UI) is a condition where involuntary loss of urine occurs. This is often very bothersome, distressing and affects an individual’s quality of life and productivity. It may be classified into different types and treated accordingly. It affects millions of people worldwide and many sufferers fail to seek help due to the attached social stigma. Nevertheless, the number of patients receiving treatment for incontinence is still high and the success rates good. Therefore it is imperative that UI is identified and assessed early so that treatment may be commenced as soon as possible. We will discuss in detail the assessment and management of the different types of UI in adults.
