Fluvoxamine combined with cognitive behavioral therapy in child and adolescent obsessive neurosis

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of fluvoxamine combined with cognitive behavior therapy （CBT） in child and adolescent obsessive neurosis （CAON）. Methods Sixty CAON patients were radomly assigned to two groups of 30 ones each, both groups took orally fluvoxamine, and reaerch group was plus CBT for 12 weeks. Clinical efficacies were assessed with the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale （Y-BOCS）, severity of child mental disorders with the Children＇s Global Assessment Scale （CGAS） and adverse reactions with the Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale （TESS） before treat- ment and at the end of the 2^nd, 4th, 8th and 12th week. Results Scores of the Y-BOCS and CGAS of both groups lowered more significantly after treatment compared with pretreatment （P〈0.01）, so did in the research than in the control group in the corresponding time period （P〈0.05 or 0.01） ; at the end of the 12th week, obvious effective rates were respectively 86. 7% in the research and 63. 3% in the control group, the former was significantly higher than the latter （x^2= 4. 356, P〈0.05）. Side effects of both groups were mainly gastrointestinal reactions, the TESS scores continuatively lowered with treatment, and contemporary group conparisons had no significant differences （P〉0.05）. Conclusion Fluvoxamine combined with cognitive behavior therapy has a more notable efficacy, takes effect more rapidly, has higher safety, and has an advantage over single fluvoxamine treatment.
