| Abstract: | Objective To investigate the expression of cyclooxgenase-2 （COX-2） and basic fibroblast growth factor （bFGF） in normal breast epithelia, benign breast disease, and breast cancer and explore their correlation. Methods Normal breast epithelia （n = 10） , benign breast disease （n =45） and breast cancer （n =90） were analyzed for COX-2 and bFGF expressions by immunohistoehemistry technique. Results The expressions of COX-2 and bFGF were signifi- cantly different between benign breast disease and breast cancer （P 〈 0.05 ）. COX-2 and bFGF expressions were significantly correlated with TNM stage and lymph mode metastasis （ P 〈 0. 05 ）. Conclusion The expression of COX- 2 in breast cancer are higher than in normal breast epithelia and benign breast disease. The expression of bFGF in breast cancer is higher than in benign breast disease. COX-2 and bFGF probably play important roles in the tumorigenesis, development, and metastasis of breast cancer in a synergie manner. |
