Expression and significance of bcl-2 and bax gene in dysfunctional uterine bleeding

B-celllymphoma/leukemia-2( Bcl-2) andBcl-2association x protein (Bax) are a pair of important genes in the regulation of apoptosis, which are widely exist in tissues and organs. Studies indicated that endometrial periodic shedding depends on bcl-2 and bax gene regulation. Bcl-2 is mainly expressed of in prolif-erative phase endometrium and the expression rapidly reduces after ovulation. Bax is expressed in the whole menstrual cycle with weakly expression in proliferative phase, and is increased in secretory phase. In dysfunctional uterine bleeding endometrium ,bcl-2 expression increases, while bax expression decreases and Bcl-2/Bax ratio is in imbalance. Here, the gene structure of Bcl-2 and Bax , their function and regulation of apoptosis,and its relationship with DUB are be reviewed.
