Abstract:Background Anesthetic postconditioning which is a novel cardioprotective strategy can attenuate myocardial reperfusion injury. Objective The article will review the signaling pathway in myocardium during anesthetic postconditioning. Content Besides the reduction in generation of reactive oxygen species, calcium overload and endothelial dysfunction, anesthetic postconditioning can also activate the pro-survival signaling pathways such as the extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK) and the phosphoinositide -3 -kinase/Akt (PI3K/Akt) pathways. These pathways might play an important role in the protective effects of anesthetic postconditioning, which stimulated the endogenous anti -injury capacity of cells to protect themselves. Trend Endogenous mechanisms evoked by anesthetic postconditioning provide a new direction of research on mechanisms of cardioprotection and the theoretical support for cardioprotective effects of anesthetic.
