Abstract:Objective To observe the effects of aqueous extract of Potentilla discolor Bunge(APB) on fasting blood glucose(FBG),serum insulin(FINS) and insulin sensitivity index(ISI) in type 2 diabetic C57BL/KsJ db/db mice.Methods The universally accepted spontaneous type 2 diabetic animal model:db/db mice were randomly divided into 4 groups(n = 6):the high dose APB group(400 mg·kg-1·bw-1),low dose APB group(200 mg·kg-1·bw-1),Pioglitazone group(4.05 mg· kg-1·bw-1) and model group,another six db/m mice as normal control group.Compare the level of fasting blood glucose,serum insulin levels and insulin sensitivity index in each group after 4 weeks of treatment.Results Both the APB aqueous extract and the Pioglitazone group significantly decrease FBG,FINS,and increase ISI(P < 0.05).Conclusion Aqueous extract of Potentilla discolor Bunge.may offer an alternate treatment for diabetes by regulating fasting blood glucose and serum insulin levels on the spontaneous type 2 diabetic db/db mice.
