Relationship between the expression of proline-rich protein 11 and the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis in patients with cholangiocarcinoma

Objective To explore the relationship between the expression of proline-rich protein 11(PRR11)and the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis in patients with cholangiocarcinoma.Methods Eighty-seven cases of cholangiocarcinoma tissues undergoing surgical resection in the First Affiliated Hospital of Changsha Medical College were prospectively selected as the tumor group from January 2016 to August 2017,and another 35 cases of normal bile duct epithelial tissue were selected as the control group.The expression of PRR11 in the tissue of tumor group and control group was detected by immunohistochemistry and its relationship with the clinicopathology and prognosis in patients with cholangiocarcinoma was analyzed.Results The results of immunohistochemistry showed that the positive rate of PRR11 protein expression in the bile duct tissue of the tumor group was higher than that of the control group(52.87%vs.5.71%,P<0.05).The positive rate of PRR11 expression in patients with clinical stages III~IV was higher than those of stageⅠ~Ⅱ(75.86%vs.41.38%).The positive rate of PRR11 expression in patients with poorly differentiated tumors was higher than those of well-differentiated(61.40%vs.36.67%).The positive rate of PRR11 expression in patients with lymph node metastasis was higher than that of non-metastatic ones(66.67%vs.40.00%,P<0.05).The survival analysis by Kaplan-Meier showed that the 3-year survival rate of PRR11-positive patients was lower than that of PRR11-negative patients[21.74(10/46)vs.51.22%(21/41),P<0.05].Multivariate COX regression analysis showed that clinical staging,lymph node metastasis,and PRR11 expression were independent factors affecting the prognosis of patients with cholangiocarcinoma(P<0.05).Conclusion PRR11 is highly expressed in cholangiocarcinoma tissue and is closely related to the clinical pathology and poor prognosis of patients.
