Nursing intervention of oral mucositis caused by apatinib for digestive tract tumors: a report of 5 cases

Objective:To summarize the nursing experience of patients with oral mucositis caused by apatinib for digestive tract tumors.Methods:From June 2020 to June 2021, 5 patients with digestive tract tumors, including 3 males and 2 females who were 43 to 56 years old, treated at Department of General Surgery, Lingnan Hospital, Third Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University developed oral mucositis after taking apatinib, including 2 cases of degree 4 oral mucositis, 2 cases of degree 3, and 1 case of degree 1. The patients were given nursing interventions, including comprehensive psychological care, strict medication guidance, personalized diet program, comprehensive health education, and so on.Results:The 2 cases of degree 4 had rapid relief of pain, and could eat by mouth after 2 days. All the 5 patients had no clinical symptoms after 3-5 days' care.Conclusions:Timely detection and evaluation of the clinical manifestations of patients with oral mucositis is the key. The nursing key points are formal treatment and comprehensive care, relieving their pain symptoms, developing personalized diet program, and paying attention to their psychological nursing and health education.
