Expression and clinical significance of serum long non-coding RNA ELFN1-AS1 in colorectal cancer patients

Objective To explore the expression of serum long non-coding RNA(lncRNA)ELFN1-AS1 in the patients with colorectal cancer and its clinical significance.Methods Totally 50 colorectal cancer patients without operation,radiotherapy and chemotherapy were taken as colorectal cancer group,and another 40 healthy volunteers were taken as control group.Total RNA was isolated from two groups,and the relative expression level of ELFN1-AS1 was detected by Real Time PCR.The relationship of the relative expression level of serum lncRNA ELFN1-AS1 in colorectal cancer group with clinicopathological features was analyzed,and the value of serum lncRNA ELFN1-AS1 in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer was evaluated by the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve.Results The relative expression level of lncRNA ELFN1-AS1 in the colorectal cancer group was significantly higher than that in the control group(P<0.001).No significant differences were found among the relative expression level of serum lncRNA ELFN1-AS1 in patients with different gender,age,lesion location and tumor maximum diamete(P>0.05),but the differences of relative expression level of lncRNA ELFN1-AS1 in patients with different lymph-node metastasis,distant metastasis status and TNM stage were statistically significant(P<0.05).The area under the ROC curve,sensitivity and specificity of serum lncRNA ELFN1-AS1 for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer were 0.821,74.0%and 82.5%,respectively.Conclusion Serum lncRNA ELFN1-AS1 might be a biomarker for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer.
