Impact of 3D Printed Head Mask on X-ray Therapeutic Dose

Abstract:Objective To investigate the influence of 3D printed head mask on X-ray therapeutic dose.Methods Choose the 3D printing epoxy resin head mask(density 1.076 g/cm3)and domestic thermoplastic head mask(density 1.12 g/cm3)used by our hospital,Under the conditions of 6 MV X-ray,100 cm source skin distance and 10 cm×10 cm irradiation field,the EBT3 disposable films was used to measure and compare the doses on and 0.5 cm,1.0 cm,1.5 cm below the surface of two different molds.The study on the influence of 3D printing head film on the dose of X-ray treatmen was conducted.The morphology and structure of the 3D printed head mask were divided into two types:non-porous and porous.Among them,the diameter of a porous membrane was 0.2 cm and 0.4 cm,and the pitch of the holds was 0.15 cm.Results The use of head mask mainly affectef the built-up area of X-ray therapeutic dose.The surface dose of 3D printing head mask and thermoplastic head mask with 0.15 cm thickness and 0.4 cm mesh diameter were 38% and 40%,respectively.The surface doses of 3D printing head mask with mesh diameters of 0.4 cm at thickness of 0.15 cm and 0.20 cm were 38% and 49%,respectively.When the thickness of the 3D printing head mask was 0.15 cm,the surface dose of the 3D printing head mask was 50%,44% and 38%,respectively,when the pore diameter was 0.2 cm and the mesh diameter was 0.4 cm.Conclusion The use of head mask has a great influence on the absorbed dose on the patient’s body surface.The higher the density of the head mask with different materials,the larger surface absorbed dose.The larger the mask thickness of the same material,the smaller the pore diameter,the larger the surface absorption dose.3D printing technology can individually produce head masks of different materials,thicknesses and pore sizes.Compared with domestic thermoplastic head films,it has certain advantages in clinical practice and is worthy of further research.
