Investigation of intelligence development status and analysis of risk factors in children with iron deficiency anemia

Objective To investigate the intelligence development status of children with iron deficiency anemia(IDA)and analyze the related risk factors.Methods The clinical data of 118 children with IDA diagnosed and treated in pediatric outpatient department from January 2016 to April 2020 were retrospectively analyzed.Gesell development scale(GDS)was used to evaluate the level of intelligence development.The children with normal intelligence development were included in normal group(n=85),and the children with abnormal intelligence development were included in abnormal group(n=33).The influencing factors of intelligence development of children with IDA were analyzed.Results There were85 children(72.03%)with normal intellectual development and 33 children(27.97%)with abnormal intellectual development.The results of univariate analysis showed that there were significant differences in family income level,area of residence,low birth weight infants,intake of iron intake of in complementary foods,mother’s education between the abnormal group and the normal group(P<0.05).The results of multivariate analysis showed that family income level,area of residence,low birth weight infants,intake of iron in complementary foods,mother’s education were the risk factors affecting the intelligent development of children with IDA(P<0.05).Conclusion The intellectual development of children with IDA is related to factors such as family income level,area of residence,whether the child has a low birth weight,whether the intake of iron in complementary food is sufficient,and the mother’s education.Early clinical interventions should be made to relevant risk factors.
