Abstract:Objective To evaluate the role of opioid receptors in neonatal rabbit asphyxia. Methods Pregnant near-term rabbits were asphyxiated. The rabbit fetuses were delivered by cesarean section and all pups were asphyxiated ( all fetuses had scores of 2 to 7).The pups are divided randomiy into 3 groups: neonatal rabbit asphyxia untreated(asphyxia group),neonatal rabbit asphyxia treated with MR2266 (MR1 group) and neonatal rabbit asphyxia treated with cantre MR2266(MR2 group). The latter two groups were given an medulla pool and intravenous dose of the opiate antagonist MR2266 respectively. All the rabbits were scored according to respiration, heart beat, skin color, muscle tone, reflex at the 5t,10t,15t 30t minute after cesarean delivery. Results the MR-treated pups had significantly better Apgar scores than asphyxia untreated group(P<0.05 and P<0.01); there was statistical difference between MR1 group and MR2 group (P<0.05).Conclusions These results suggested that kappa-receptor participated in conducting the endogenous opioid peptides effect,it was associated with the pathophysiological changes in neonatal rabbit asphyxia.
Keywords:opioid receptor  kappa-receptor  neonatal rabbit  asphyxia
