Abstract:Toll-like receptors(TLR) are an important class of receptors of the innate immune system. Its activation can induce inflammatory response by recognizing pathogen associated molecular patterns while inflammation is an important pathophysiological process of type 2 diabetes and its complications. Studies have shown that TLR is involved in the development of insulin resistance and ~ c.ell d~,'sfunction of type 2 diabetic patients and its complications. The mechanism may include the glucose and lipid disorders involved in type 2 diabetes sustained activation of TLR,induction of reactive oxygen species and cytokine production increase, which eventually lead to the inflammatory response. The further understanding of TLRs would provide new methods of anti-inflammation therapy and immune intervention for type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Keywords:Toll-like receptors  Type 2 diabetes mellitus  Inflammation
