Use of Rapid/Shallow Breathing Index as an Indicator to 52 Patients with Aspiration Pneumonitis Combined with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrone Underwent Withdraw from Mechanical Ventilation

Objective To evaluate significance of the rapid /shallow breathing index as an indicator to 52 patients with aspiration pneumonitis combined with acute respiratory distress syndrone underwent withdraw from mechanical ventilation.Methods Measurement of frequency/tidal volume ratio(f/VT) was made in patients with aspiration pneumonitis combined with cute respiratory distress syndrome underwent withdraw from mechanical ventilation.Results 39 patients successfully withdraw from ventilation and the mean value of f/VT(75±23)bpm/L,significantly decreased than the mean value of f/VT(110±18)bpm/L in 13 patients difficultly withdraw from ventilation(P<0.05).Additionally 36 patients in successful group have the value of f/VT under 105,but only 4 patients in difficult group.The sensitivity was calculated to be 92.31% and the specialty was 61.54%.Conclusion Monitoring f/VT might be a better index because of its simplicity and convenience,noninvasion and accuracy when aspiration pneumonitis with acute respiratory distress syndrone patients undergo withdraw from mechanical ventilation,and it maybe significantly predict the outcome and suitable for basic hospital operation.
