Abstract:The results obtained in 111 patients with screen detected abnormalities investigated by core biopsy performed on a prone table have been compared with a histological group of 111 patients. There was a higher preoperative diagnosis in the prone biopsy group (81.1% vs 45.5%; P < 0.0001). Prone stereotactic core biopsy is currently the optimum method of obtaining a pre-operative diagnosis of lesions visualized on mammography alone.
