Effects of calcium dobesilate on oxidative stress in patients with diabetic kidney disease

Objective To investigate the effect of calcium dobesilate on the oxidative stress in patients with diabetic kidney disease. Methods Ninety patients were randomly divided into control group, positive control group and treatment group. Calcium dobesilate was given to the patients in treatment group, and placebo and fluvastatin were given respectively to the patients in control group and positive control group for 12 weeks. Urinary albumin excretion rate （UAER）, serum creatinine （SCr）, superoxide dismutase （SOD）, glutathione peroxidase （GSH-Px）, and malondialdehyde （MDA） were measured before and after the treatment. Results Compared to those before treatment, UAER, SCr and MDA levels were significantly decreased in treatment group, and SOD and GSH-Px levels were obviously increased after 12 weeks （P〈0. 05）. In control group and positive control group, above markers had no obvious change after 12 weeks. There was significant difference between treatment group and control groups. Conclusions Calcium dobesilate can alleviate proteinuria and decrease serum ereatinine partly by antioxidative effects, and the curative effect is more predominant than fluvastatin.
