Abstract:Our prior studies showed cardiac active peptides by autocrine or paracrine, such as angiotensin Ⅱ,endothelin and atrial natriuretic factor, may play important roles in physiological cardiac hypertrophied remodelling. But there is very little known about the role of calcitonin gene related peptide(CGRP), a 37 amino acids neuropeptide in nerves found throughout all regions of the heart,in physiological cardiac hypertrophied remodelling. The level of CGRP in swimming induced hypertrophied myocardium and plasma were measured by radioimmunoassay.Rats were subjected to a 10 weeks swimming program. The result showed that swimmers increased their left ventricular weights by 35%(p<0.05) and level of CGRP in myocardium and plasma were increased by 70% and 47% after, compared with matched sedentary controls (p<0.05).It suggests that the chronic hypertrophied response if the heart to physiological loads is influenced by the neuropeptide in heart nerves such as CGRP.
Keywords:CGRP  cardiac hypertrophy  exercise
