Clinical value of virtual endoscope technique in diagnosis of children with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome

Objective To explore the clinical value of the virtual endoscope technique in examination and diagnosis of children with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome（OSAHS）.Methods From July 2006 to December 2010,38 cases of children with OSAHS were enrolled,male 20,female 18,aged 6-7 years old,mean age 6.44 years old,which performed nose pharynx ministry with virtual endoscope.The patients divided into 2 groups,group Ⅰ（n = 18） was merged secretory otitis media and group Ⅱ（n = 20） was without otitis media.The adenoid thickness of the most prominent part,the anteroposterior diameter of nosopharynx,adenoid thickness/the anteroposterior diameter of nosopharynx（A/N） ratio and the depth of lateral sulcus of adenoids were measured with virtual endoscope.Results In group Ⅰand group Ⅱ,the adenoid thickness were（16.21 ± 1.74） mm and（15.75 ± 1.44） mm;anteroposterior diameter of nosopharynx were（19.52 ± 1.37） mm and（19.36±1.27） mm;A/N ratio were 0.85 ± 0.06 and 0.83 ± 0.05 respectively.There were no statistically significant（P 0.01）.But the depth of lateral sulcus of adenoids in the group Ⅰ and group Ⅱ were（1.69 ± 0.52） mm and（2.90 ± 0.68） mm respectively,the depth of lateral sulcus of adenoids group Ⅰwas much more shallow than that in group Ⅱ（P 0.01）.Conclusion It is demonstrated that the adenoids merger with secretory otitis mediathe is associated with the form of adenoid.The virtual endoscopic technique not only could measure the thickness,but also could evaluate the form of adenoid.The virtual endoscope technique has much more useful in the clinical diagnosis of children with OSAHS and it is worth to introduce.
