Abstract:It is shown that in grivets and guinea pigs Marburg's virus reproduces in cells of the mononuclear phagocyte system, in hepatocytes, and in a few endotheliocytes. Marked pathological changes develop in the liver, spleen, and kidneys. A peculiarity of infection in monkeys is the entire absence of morphological manifestations of an inflammatory reaction and of immune system activation. Cells of the mononuclear phagocyte system are thought to play a crucial role in the development of pathological changes in the organism of infected monkeys and guinea pigs.
