Observation on the effect of Chinese traditional medicines on the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke

Objective To study the effect of Chinese traditional medicines on the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke.Methods Total 246 outpatients and inpatients that were diagnosed with ischemic stroke in the Brain Hospital of Weifang City from December 2008 to August 2009 were enrolled,of which 127 patients who received aspirin were taken as control group and 119 patients who received Chinese traditional medicines and aspirin as treatment group.They were followed up by telephone or clinic from 6 to 12 months.The recurrence rates of ischemic stroke were analyzed.Results In treatment group the recurrence rate of ischemic stroke was 10.92%,in control group the recurrence rate of ischemic stroke was 28.35% which was higher than treatment group.The difference was statistically significant by Chi-Square test(P<0.05).Conclusion Chinese traditional medicines have important clinical significance on the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke.
