Effect of Ginkgo biloba on the expression of GFAP and the apoptosis cells after the cerebral ischemia and reperfusion in rats

Abstract:ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of Ginkgo biloba extract on the neuronal apoptosis and the expression of GFAP in rats after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion.MethodsMale SD rats were randomly divided into the sham-operated group,control group and EGb761 treatment group,the middle cerebral artery ischemia-reperfusion model(MCAO) was established using line bolt method.In situ end-labeling(TUNEL) method was used to observe nerve cell apoptosis,the expressions of GFAP changes were detected by immunohistochemistry after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion.ResultsCompared with the hypoperfusion group,the number of GFAP,the apoptosis cells were decreased significantly in the EGb761 group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).ConclusionGinkgo biloba extract could restrain the excessive activation of astrocytes and reduce the nerve cell apoptosis.It plays a nerve protective effect.
