| Abstract: | This paper reported the results of a survey of congenital h(?)art disease (CHD) among 13, 821 school children(7,124 males, 6, 697 females) in the area of Bai nationality in Dali from Oct. 1987 to Oct. 1989. By nationality 10, 602 were Bai (77%), 2,886 Hen (21%), 333 Hui, Yi and 14 others (2%). From history, physical examination, ECG, chest X-ray and two-dimensional echocardiogra- phy, we found 110 children suffering from CHD with a morbidity of 0.80%. Of the 110 cases, 52 were males and 58 females with morbidity of 0.73% and 0.87% respectively, (P>0.05). Out of the total 13, 821, 3, 450 were from urban areaswith 16 cases of CHD, while 10, 371 were from rural areas with 94 cases of CHD showingamorbidity of 0.460/00 and 0.90% (P<0.05) respectively. The types of CHD were as follows: ASD 60 cases (54.5%), VSD 38 cases (34.5%), PDA 9 cases (8.2%), tetralogy of Fallot 2 cases (1.8%), PS 1 case (0.9%). Higher morbidity in the plateau, rural area and etc. were discussed. |
