The effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation combined with hyperbaric oxygen on coma patients after traumatic brain injury

Objective To observe the effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation(rTMS) with combined hyperbaric oxygen(HBO) on coma patients after traumatic brain injury. Methods 87 coma patients after traumatic brain injury in Rehabilitation Department of Binzhou Medical University Hospital from January 2019 to August 2020 were selected and they were divided into control group, HBO group and combined treatment group according to random number table method, with 29 cases in each group. The control group was treated with drugs and routine rehabilitation treatment, the HBO group was treated with HBO on the basis of the control group, and the combined treatment group was treated with rTMS on the basis of the HBO group. The scores of Glasgow coma scale(GCS) and modified International coma recovery scale revised(CRS-R) were compared before and 1 month after treatment among three groups. Results There was no significant difference in the GCS and CRS-R scores among the three groups before treatment. After treatment, the GCS and CRS-R scores in the HBO and combined treatment groups were both significantly higher than that of the control group, while the combined treatment group were significantly higher than that of the HBO group, the difference was significant(P<0.05). Conclusion rTMS combined with HBO has synergistic effect on coma patients after traumatic brain injury, so the combination of rTMS and HBO can better improve the coma status of patients and improve the rehabilitation effect.
