Abstract:Objective : The side -effects of various concentrations of NO aspirated thourgh a designed apparatus in rabbits was investigated. Methods: Rabbits were subjected to 25,50, and 100 ppm NO gas treatment during a 12-week period. Those rabbits aspirated atmosphere served as control. An apparatus with microprocessor-interfaced controller was designed and usedfor the aspiration in the investigation. Before and after treatment, ALT, Cr, BUN, MetHb and CBC were monitored. At the end of the investigation , the rabbits were sacrificed and the major organs were histologically examined. Results: There were no significant changes in liver and renal function, CBC, and histological profile of major organs in the rabbits with NO treatment.while a slight increase was observed in MetHb in the rabbits treated with NO at all concentrations used in the study. Conclusion:There were no significant side -effects on the liver, kidneys ,and lungs in the rabbits received logn-term NO aspiration at concentration up to 100 ppm
