| Abstract: | Objective To investigate the clinical effect of the facemask bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) assisted ventilation on acute high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) with hypoxemic respiratory failure. Methods A total of 35 patients who had been diagnosed as acute HAPE with hypoxemic respiratory failure,were both given facemask BiPAP assisted ventilation and routine therapy.The measures of heart rate, respiratory rate,arterial blood gas analysis and oxygenation index (PaO2/FiO2) were observed before and after treatment. Results The achievement ratio of BiPAP assisted ventilation is 91.43% (32/35). The pH of arterial blood gas analysis after treatment was markedly higher than those before treatment ( P ＜0.05). There were significant differences in the heart rate, respiratory rate,and PaO2/FiO2 before and after treatment ( P ＜0.01). Conclusions Facemask BiPAP assisted ventilation is safe and effective in the treatment of acute HAPE with hypoxemic respiratory failure. |
