Abstract:Objective To investigate the influence of body weight support treadmill training (BWSTr) for walking ability on the patients after imcomplete spinal cord injury(ISCI). Methods 42 patients with ISCI were divided into two groups: the BWSTr group (n =22) and the control group ( n =20), Both groups received the similar treatments with rehabilitation training, while the patients in the BWSTr group were additionally treated with BWSIT one time every day for one month. The Functional Ambulation Category((FAC) scale, stride length and overground walking speed (OWS) were used to assess the walking ability before the treatment and one month after the treatment, respectively. Results No significant difference was found in stride length, OWS and the scores of FAC between the two groups before treatment. Stride length, OWS and the scores of FAC of all patients from the two groups were significantly increased one month after the treatment, as compared with that before the treatment( P 〈 0.05 ). Stride length, OWS and the scores of FAC were significantly increased in the BWSTr group than the control group ( P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion On the basis of conventional rehabilitation, BWSTr could improve walking ability more significantly on the patients with ISCI.
Keywords:Incomplete spinal cord injury  Body weight support treadmiU training  Walking ability
