SNAPPING OF THE PERONEAL TENDON IN ATHLETES

Four cases of athletes (5 feet) with snapping of peroneal tendon were reported in this paper. They all had a history of sprain of (?)kle and then the symptoms of snapping, sore, weakness and so on appeared, when the ankle is in action. It was difficult to engage in physical training in serious cases. It was important to make a differential diagnosis with a habit dislocation of peroneal tendons.We believe that the pathogenesis was that while an ankle was injured, an injury of the peroneal tendons and their sheaths were injured too. It resulted in hyperemia and edema of them. And then they were thickening. The anastomosis of both tendons was disrupted. While the tendons moved the symptoms appeared. In this article two (three feet) of four cases were operated. We believe that an operation should be performed in the patients with serious symptoms.The procedure: The tendon peroneus brevis was cut off. The proximal tendon was sutured to the musculus peroneus Iongus; The distal tendon was sutured to the external malleolus in a moderate tension so increasing the stability of the ankle. The result was excellent and the athletes might return to their training again.
