Relationship between nursing competence and self - conception of clinical nurses

Objective To investigate the status of self - conception and nursing competence ot the chnical nursing stall, and to analyze the relationship between them,so as to explore the influencing factors of nursing competence. Methods Nursing Competency Inventory and Tennessee Self - Concept Scale were used to survey 153 clinical nurses. Results The average score of the nursing competence of the clinical nursing staff was （5.31 ±0.72）, and the average score of self - conception was （ 3.95 ±0.33 ） , there was a significant correlation between the total scores of the nursing competence and the self - conception （ P 〈 0.01 ）. Regression analysis showed that the significant influencing variables to the nursing competence were career of intersting, the working years and self - conception. Conclusion The self - conception of clinical nursing staff is one of the most important influencing factors of nursing competence. According to the influencing factors of the nursing competence, the managers should take targeted measures, pay attention to the cultivation of the self - conception and promote the healthy development of the psychology and personality of the nursing staff, thus to increase nursing competence.
