Abstract: | Gatot, D., Smith, P. J. and Ekert, H. (1976). Aust. paediat. J., 12, 53-55. Disseminated intravascular coagulation in systemic Candida albicans infection treated successfully with heparin and prothrombin concentrate. An 11 year old boy receiving intravenous hyperalimentation developed disseminated intravascular coagulation as a complication of Candida albicans septicaemia. This usually fatal complication was successfully treated with heparin and a prothrombin concentrate, as documented by clinical improvement, and improvement in platelet count and coagulation studies. |
