Abstract: | AbstractA modification of Eastwood's Congo red method is described. The method, which substitutes iron hematoxylin in place of alum hematoxylin, appears to enhance the staining of amyloid when viewing with light microscopy, at the same time quenching background fluorescence when viewing with fluorescence microscopy. The method gives consistent and reliable staining results, and the Congo red staining solution has excellent stability. (The J Histotechnol11:105, 1988.) |
