Abstract:Objectives To observe the functional polarization of T cells in children with recurrent respiratory tract infections(RRTI)during remission intervals. Methods The serum levels of Th1 and Th2 cytokines in children with RRTI and controls were determined by PHA-stimulated blood culture and 4-color flow cytometry. Results The serum level of Th1 cytokines was lower in children with RRTI than that of the controls(P < 0.05=while the serum level of Th2 cytokines was higher in children with RRTI than that of the controls(P < 0.01=,which made the Th1/Th2 ratio lower in RRTI children than the controls(P < 0.01=.There was no significant difference between the RRTI children and the controls in the decrease of Tc1 cell number, the increase of Tc2 cell number, and the decrease of Tc1/Tc2 ratio. Conclusions Functional polarization of T help cells was abnormal in RRTI children during remission intervals, accompanied by the predomination of Th2 cells and the normal Tc cell polarization.
Keywords:recurrent respiratory tract infections  T cells functional polarization  children
