XUE Yitao's experience of removing heat in the upper energizer and warming the lower energizer methods in treating paroxysmal atrial fibrillation were summarized. The pathogenesis of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation,especially in the elderly,was deficiency in the root and excess in the branch,with heat in the upper energizer and cold in the lower energizer manifested as palpitation,dizziness,insomnia,etc. Based on syndrome differentiation according to six meridians and Zangfu organs,Professor XUE treated paroxysmal atrial fibrillation with Wumei pills in Treatise on Cold Damage Disease and gained good effects by removing heat in the upper energizer and warming the lower energizer.
