Effect of depression on the recurrence of atrial fibrillation after circumferential ablation of pulmonary veins

Objective To evaluate the relationship between the depression and recurrence of atrial fibrillation after circumferential ablation of pulmonary veins. Methods Ninety-eight patients with atrial fibrillation underwent circumferential ablation of pulmonary veins were enrolled and divided into two groups by recurrence of atrial fibrillation. To screen the risk factors for recurrence of atrial fibrillation after ablation. We analyzed their depression by SDS scale and retrospected their clinic data before ablation, and followed up the recurrence of atrial fibrillation one year after ablation. Results At a mean follow-up of( 14. 7± 1.4) months,28(29. 6％ ) patients had recurrence, 1 (0. 01％ ) patient died. Two variables, depression and left atrial diameter (LAD), were significantly different between two groups. Moreover, these variables had been proved as the independent predictors of recurrence by multiple regression analysis. The OR were 3.95 [95％ CI( 1.63 ～ 9. 56),P=0. 002]and 1.18 [95％ CI( 1.03 ～ 1.36), P = 0. 01].
