Abstract: | Temporary right atrial pacing is a useful but underutilized technique because of instability of the pacing electrodes. To circumvent this problem, a new method of pacing was Invented. A loop-mounted electrode structure, originally devised for measurement of blood flow, has been adapted as a temporary right atrial pacer. It is rapidly and easily introduced into the right atrium through a catheter. Once in place, the catheter is removed leaving only the loop in place. It has been used successfully in 14 of 16 patients, in 5 for periods of 3 to 15 days. The methods of construction and clinical experience are described. |
