Diffusion-weighted imageing in the differential diagnosis of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor and pancreatic cancer

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) for differentiating pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (PNET) from pancreatic cancer (PC). Methods DWI findings of 17 patients with PNETs confirmed by histopathology and 16 patients with histopathologically-proven PCs were retrospectively evaluated. The minimum ADC (MinADC) values of masses were measured and statistically analyzed with Wileoxon signed-rank test. Results The mean MinADC values of Pane reatic neuroendoerine tumor (PNET)and Pancreatic cancer (PC)were (1.163±0.362)×10^-3mmZ/sand(1.076±0.250)×10^-3mm2]s, respectively. There was no significant difference of MinADC value between of PENT and PC (P =0.663 ). Conclusion DWI and ADC values are less helpful in differentiation of PNET and PC.
