Clinical Study of LASEK Combined Mitomycin C in Moderate Myopia

Objective To observe the effectivity and safety of mitomycin C （MMC） in LASEK surgery for treatment of moderate myopia. Methods 72 eyes of 38 patients （ -3.00 - -6.00D）were randomly divided into 0.02% MMC group and control group. Uncorrected vision acuity （UCVA） haze, contrast sensitivity （CS） before and after surgery（more than 6 months）were followed up. Results There were no differences between the cases with excellent UCVA（ ≥1.0）and stimulate symptom,healing times of corneal epithelial postoperatively （P 〉0.05）. Clinically significant haze was found in control group 1 month,3 months postoperatively（P 〈0.05）. There was no difference of CS between the two groups preoperatively and postoperatively（P 〉 0.05 ）. Conclusion LASEK with 0.02% MMC is more effective for correction of moderate myopia. It alleviate the haze, does not increase the stimulate symptoms and healing times. There are no differences between the UCVA and CS postoperatively.
