Effect of Kuandonghua formula on airway inflammation in rats for bronchiectasis with the phlegm-heat stagnation syndrome

Abstract:Objective:To observe the effect of Kuandonghua formula on airway inflammation in rats for bronchiectasis with the phlegm-heat stagnation syndrome.Methods:A total of 70 rats were randomly divided into the blank group,the self-control group,the model group,the roxithromycin group,the Kuandonghua formula treatment group at low,middle and high dosage with 10 rats in each group.The rat model was induced by intratracheal injection of pseudomonas aeruginosa dilution.Rats in the treatment group were treated with Kuandonghua formula for 2 weeks.The morphological changes of lung tissue,concentrations in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF)and expressions of mRNA in the lung tissue including LTB4,TNF-α,IL-8 and IL-10 were evaluated.Results:Compared with the blank group,the inflammatory infiltration of lung tissue,concentrations in BALF and expressions of mRNA in the lung tissue including LTB4,TNF-α,IL-8 and IL-10 of the model group were significantly increased(P<0.01).Compared with the model group,the inflammatory infiltration of lung tissue,concentrations in BALF and expressions of mRNA in the lung tissue with regard to LTB4,TNF-α,IL-8 and IL-10 of the Kuandonghua formula treatment group were significantly decreased,which the effect of high dosage was superior to low and middle dosage(P<0.01).Conclusion:Kuandonghua formula can reduce airway inflammation in rats for bronchiectasis with the phlegm-heat stagnation syndrome,and it presents a certain quantity-effect relationship trend.
