Abstract: | Objective:To evaluate the efficiency, safety and complications of transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus(PDA) or secundum atrial septal defects (ASD) using the Ampaltzer occluder device.Methods:30 patients underwent transcatherter closure of PDA of ASD with the Amplatzer occluer. The lateral descending aortographies were performed to evaluate immediate results in the 20 patients of PDA.Hemodynamics was studied before and after the procedure.X-ray and echocardiography were performed in order to detect residual shunt and recanalization. Results:The device was successfully implanted in 28 patients. There was no clinicl evidence of hemolysis and no incidence of device embolization. The median operation time was 56min and median fluoroscopy time was 11min.The deivces' positions were optimal and no residual shunt was found 24h and 1month after the procedure. No complications were observed during the 3-month follow-up in 25 patients. Conclusions:The Amplatzer occluder device is a highly efficient prostheisi that can the be safely applied in most patients with PDA or ASD. |
