The dynamic changes of plasma homocysteine and lipids after helicobacter pylori eradication in isolated systolic hypertension

Objective To investigate the dynamic changes in plasma lipids and homocysteine (tHcy) concentrations after Helicobacter pylori (Hp) eradication with low dose triple therapy (triple therapy) in isolated systolic hypertension (ISH). Methods TC, TG, tHcy, V B12 , folate and nitric oxide (NO) were measured in 48 cases of ISH with HP infection before and after 4 week triple therapy, and was compared with 48 normal subjects (control group matched in age and sex, and taken placebo for 2 weeks). Results The mean plasma tHcy level in ISH patients was significantly higher than that the control group ( P< 0 01). The Hp eradication rate of triple therapy was 83 3% for the ISH patients. Plasma concentration of tHcy decreased remarkably, and those of folate, V B12 and NO exhibited significant rising in ISH patients with eradicated after treatment ( n = 40). While level of lipids decreased obviously regardless of the Hp eradicated or not, levels of folate and V B12 remained unchanged in with persistent Hp infection ISH patients ( n =8). Conclusion Triple therapy may lower the plasma lipids in Hp infected ISH patients, but tHcy decline only exists in Hp eradicated patients.
