The reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the self assessment of leadership instrument

Objective To translate the self assessment of leadership instrument(SALI)into Chinese,and test its reliability and validity.Methods SALI was translated into Chinese and polished through back-translation and cultural adaptation by expert consultation.Then,368 clinical nurses were surveyed using the scale to test its reliability and validity.Results The SALI(Chinese version)consisted of 5 dimensions and 40 items.The correlation coefficient between each item and the total score were 0.71~0.83,while the overall content validity S-CVI and the I-CVI of each item were 0.99 and 0.86~1.00.The exploratory factor analysis extracted five common factors with characteristic roots>1,and the cumulative contribution rate was 78.975%.The overall Cronbach′s alpha coefficient was 0.983,while the Cronbach′s coefficient of each dimension was 0.907~0.933.Moreover,the split-half reliability coefficient and the test-retest reliability were 0.912 and 0.978 respectively.Conclusion The self assessment of leadership instrument(Chinese version)is of good reliability and validity,and can be used to evaluate the leadership of clinical nurses.
