Surmounting space constraints to provide a variety of quality library services at the Hong Kong Baptist University Chinese Medicine Library

This paper explains how the Chinese Medicine Library in Hong Kong Baptist University overcomes the limitations of space and provides quality services in the areas of collection development,service enhancement,technological support and management strategy.Adoption of an open-minded management model,utilization of modern information technology and updated knowledge of user needs are the crucial steps for the Chinese Medicine Library to emancipate itself from problems posed by limited space and to provide more personalized services beyond the library's physical confines.With people-oriented issues in mind,professional librarians should work proactively with Chinese Medicine professionals to build up a quality library collection based on users' needs,to expand the range of services and to extend their role from assistantship to partnership.
