Analysis of the Risk Factors for Hematoma Enlargement in the Early Stage of Spontaneous Intracerebral Hemorrhage

Objective: To evaluate the risk factors for hematoma enlargement in the early stage of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage(SIH).Methods: One hundred and two SIH patients were recruited for this study and brain CT was performed on the patients at the admission and 48 hours after the onset respectively.Twelve evaluating items related to hematoma enlargement were set,and logistic regression was applied to analyze the risk factors of hematoma enlargement.Results: The incidence rate of hematoma enlargement was 52.9% in this group.The average volume of hematoma was(22.47±7.7) mL for newly diagnosed patients,and(31.8±10.3) mL for re-examined cases.Hematoma were located in different brain regions(28 cases in the basal ganglia region,4 in cerebellum,7 in thalamus,9 in cerebral lobe,5 in brainstem,and 1 in ventricles).The irregularity of hematoma,drinking alcohol and anticoagulants intake were positively correlated with hematoma enlargement,while the time duration between onset and hospitalization was negatively correlated.Conclusion: Hematoma enlargement in the early stage of SIH was common.The irregularity of hematoma,alcohol-drinking,and taking anticoagulants are risk factors for hematoma enlargement,which will become stable thereafter.
