Women tend to attach more importance on men＇ s economic resources and willingness of providing investment in women themselves and their children in their long - term spouse selection. Women will determine these characteristies of men by evaluation such cues of men as material wealth, family commitment, social status, enterprising spirit, love for children, and in- tegrity personality. All these cues provide the same information ： Their spouse will be able and willing to provide adequate subsist- ence resources when women produced their offspring. This is so called ＂acquired edge strategy＂. However, in selecting their short- term sexual partners, women are likely to prefer those men with muscularity who may provide better genes for their off- spring. This is so called ＂congenital edge strategy＂ adopted by women in choosing their short - term sexual relationship.
