Proteasome and proteasome inhibitors

Proteasome is a kind of large multi-catalytic protease complex responsible for the majority of intracellular protein turnover.The proteasome also plays a crucial role in the regulation of many physiological processes and in the development of a number of major human deseases.Several groups of proteasome inhibitors have been developed,and one inhibitor named bortezomib is now in the treatment of multiple myeloma.Some progress has been achieved in this field and recent development of proteasome inhibitors are reviewed.
