Clinical comparison of Dumai moxibustion combined with DSA-guided small needle-knife release for residual low back pain after PKP for thoracolumbar vertebral compression fractures

Objective To observe the clinical effect of Dumai moxibustion combined with DSA-guided small needle-knife release on patients with residual low back pain after PKP for thoracolumbar vertebral compression fractures.Methods From May 2018 to October 2019,90 patients who still had low back pain at 2 months after PKP in the Orthopaedics Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine were selected.All patients received calcium carbonate D3 as the basic medicine.According to the random number table,the above patients were randomly divided into 3 groups(moxibustion group,needle-knife group,combined group),30 cases in each group.Moxibustion group received Dumai moxibustion alone;needle-knife group received needle-knife release treatment under the DSA-guidance;the combined group was given a combination treatment of the above two methods.All patients were treated for a total of 2 weeks.After treatment,the clinical efficacy of each group was observed.The visual analogue scale(VAS)scores of the three groups before and after treatment were compared and analyzed.The scores were determined by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Scores(JOA)and the Oswetry Disability Index(ODI).Follow-up was performed at 1 and 2 months after treatment.Results The VAS score,JOA score,and ODI score of the three groups were significantly improved after treatment(P<0.05);the therapeutic effect of the combined group was significantly better than that of the other two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion Dumai moxibustion combined with DSA-guided small needle-knife release is effective in treating residual low back pain after PKP for thoracolumbar vertebral compression fractures,and it is worthy of popularization and application.
