Prevention and control strategies for chronic and non-communicable diseases in modern and traditional Chinese medicines

Objective To study prevention and control strategies for chronic and non-communicable diseases in modern and traditional Chinese medicines,and explore the feasibility and necessity of integration of the different medical sciences.Methods We reviewed the theories and methods of modern and traditional Chinese medicines in preventing chronic and non-communicable diseases.The characteristics of both the medical sciences were analyzed by the methods of summarization and comparison.Results Modern medicine and Chinese medicine were consistent in the theories and methods for the control and prevention of chronic and non-communicable diseases in general.Early intervention and individual psychological balance were considered important for chronic disease prevention in modern and traditional Chinese medicines.Traditional Chinese medicine could provide clues for scientific research and beneficial alternatives for chronic disease intervention.Conclusion The systematic integration of modern and traditional Chinese medicines would be helpful in chronic and non-communicable disease prevention and control.
