Oxidative Stress and DNA Damage Signaling
Abstract:S4-1 Intracellular signaling response to oxidative and nitrosative stress? Young Joon SURH(National Research Laboratory of Molecular Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention, College of Pharmacy, Seoul National University, Seoul 151-742, KoreaAbstract:Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) can cause cellular damage implicated in pathogenesis of a wide range of human disorders, including cancer, autoimmune disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative disease. While excessive oxidative and nitrosative stress leads to necrotic or apoptotic death, moderate amounts of ROS and RNS render the cells adaptive to subsequent stress. Such adaptive response to oxidative/nitrosative stress normally accompanies de novo synthesis of proteins via activation of distinct stress-responsive signaling.
